Dieter Mersch
Dieter Mersch, PhD University of Cologne, is director of the Institute for Theory at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and Professor for Aesthetic Theory. He was Visiting Professor at the Universities of Chicago, University of Vienna, Corvinus University of Budapest and Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Originally trained in mathematics and philosophy, he received his Habilitation in philosophy from the University of Darmstadt, before holding positions there and in Kiel. Between 2004 and 2013 he was Full Professor of Media Theory, and head of the PhD Training Program Visibility and Visualisation: Thinking with Imagesat the University of Potsdam. His main areas of interest are philosophical aesthetics, media-philosophy, image-theory, musicology and digital criticism. His recent books are Ordo ab Chao / Order from Noise (Zürich: diaphanes, 2013) and Epistemologies of Aesthetics (Zürich: diaphanes, 2015).
