Andrew B. B. Hamilton teaches German at Colby College in Maine, USA, where he researches and teaches literature and the history of ideas, especially in Germany and Europe. He is writing a book on the history of dueling in literature, describing how ritualized violence has served as a model of cultural meaning-making across social forms and literary eras in European history. He has also written about such German-language authors as Franz Kafka, W. G. Sebald, and Theodor Fontane, as well as studies on narratology, and a number of English translations from the German.
