Thomas Laqueur
Thomas Laqueur is Helen Fawcett Distinguished Professor of History in the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of several books on the history of the body, one of which, Making Sex (Cambridge, Mass.: Harvard UP, 1990), is translated into German as Auf den Leib geschrieben (Frankfurt/M. u.a.: Campus, 1992), and of many articles on subjects ranging from working class religion and radical politics to the history of death and commemoration. He is the father of a twenty-four year old daughter and the son of a now twenty year dead father who was born in Hamburg and trained there as a doctor.
